Leadership Statment

Leadership is not magnetic personality—that can just as well be a glib tongue. It is not "making friends and influencing people"—that is flattery. Leadership is lifting a person's vision to higher sights, the raising of a person's performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations.
-Peter F. Drucker

Everytime I serve on a job search committee it puts me into a space to reflect on my own leadership and what I bring to the preverbial table. One question that most Student Affairs job searches ask is “tell me about your leadership style” and then we smile at the candidate and wait for them to fumble through their response. I am not sure why this question stands out to me, but I believe it is a question that allows you to see into the day to day interactions of a future employee. It ask them to examine who they are in the face of success and adversity. My leadership style can be categorized into four domains:

  • Peer to Peer interactions

  • Honesty and Integrity (They go hand in hand, right)

  • Action Oriented

  • Visionary
